McKinney Falls State Park

McKinney falls state park is one of the most scenic parks in Austin. It’s also a great spot for an afternoon picnic, or to take your family on a weekend hike. However, McKinney Falls State Park has so much more to offer than just natural beauty. 

Camping facilities are available

Many other amenities make this location perfect for any getaway! Take advantage of its camping facilities by pitching your tent under the stars or reserving one of their cabins for you and your loved ones to stay in while they enjoy all the park has to offer. If you want to bring along some furry friends, there are even kennels available as well as plenty of space outside the gates where dogs can roam free and be cared for by their owners. 

Picnic areas

McKinney Falls State Park offers five beautiful, shaded picnic areas in ATX. Three of the most popular are North Grove Picnic Area, South Grove Picnic Area, and Trailhead Picnic Area. The other two smaller sites include Little Red Schoolhouse and Turkey Creek. 

Wildlife sanctuary

This park has been home to many different kinds of wildlife over the years and it continues to be a sanctuary for them today. You can see deer roaming around outside, as well as a variety of birds and other animals that call this location home. It’s even been known to be a hot spot for alligators, so you never know what creatures will appear in the area! 

Rappelling and rock-climbing activities

If you're feeling adventurous, try out some rock climbing or rappelling at McKinney Falls. The rocks are all unique, so you can have a great time climbing around and checking things out. 

Swimming for everyone

If rock climbing isn't your thing, there are also designated swimming areas where you'll find some wonderful spots to relax in the water. Just be sure to bring along sunscreen as this area is typically quite sunny! In addition to the waterfall, two springs run year-round. It's a great place to explore as you hike around and learn more about what makes this area so special.

There are even guided tours available to the area, so you can get a great sense of what this place is all about.
